Getting started with SecureTeams is a fast and simple process. After you’ve gone through the sales process and have the plugin installed in your team (If you haven’t gotten through that process yet click here for more information) you’ll need to open the HighSide plugin and set a password. HighSide requires this password for the simple reason that if someone got access to your Teams credentials they would immediately have access to your HighSide SecureTeams messages. With us having this password in place it serves as another layer of protection in front of your secure messages.

After setting a password you’re now free to use SecureTeams to send messages to any Channel associated with that TenantID as well as any user (Or group of users) that currently has SecureTeams setup. Within sending a message you can set a recipient (Whether that be a channel or a single user or a group of users), a subject (Which is an unencrypted piece of text similar to an email subject line, everyone on the team will be able to see this subject line), and a body (This includes all text you need encrypted as well as the ability to send a file in a fully end to end encrypted fashion)

Changing Password vs Rotating Keys

The HighSide plugin has 2 options with regards to your password, rotating your keys and changing your password, so what really is the difference? Changing your password simply changes the password for your user account and signs you out of all instances for your plugin. This forces any device you want to use the plugin on to sign back in using your new password, but no message history is lost. When you rotate your keys you’re changing your password but in changing your password you’re changing your keypair entirely. This will cause a sign out of all devices currently using the HighSide plugin and you will lose all access to previous message history. This is typically used for data loss prevention if you think someone has access to your Teams credentials as well as your HighSide plugin credentials.
